Cassandra Cain, also known as Orphan and later Batgirl, is a DC Comics character with a complex and often tragic history. She was raised from birth to be the ultimate assassin by her father, David Cain, one of the world's most skilled killers. Her training involved deprivation of language and human contact, forcing her to "read" body language and predict movements with uncanny accuracy.

Initially mute and lacking social skills due to her upbringing, Cassandra struggles to understand and navigate normal human interactions. She is burdened by the guilt of committing a murder early in her life, a consequence of her father's brutal conditioning. This event motivates her to seek redemption and use her skills for good.

She becomes associated with Batman and the Birds of Prey, using her exceptional martial arts abilities to fight crime. While her verbal communication remains a challenge for much of her early career, she eventually learns to speak and read. Cassandra is a fiercely loyal and dedicated hero, constantly striving to overcome her past and prove herself worthy of the trust placed in her.
